Joshua Devenish Sculpture: My work focuses on the material I choose to use and how I choose to change it, the relationship between man and nature. I find dead, decaying, weathered, twisted pieces of fallen natural material and through a series of interventions give it new lease life. My intervention reveals the story of the material and how it has changed through time. I’m just another part of the materials history that allows people to see beyond the surface and appreciate the beauty that would otherwise be unseen. I want the viewer to understand that there is beauty in everything around us if you look hard enough. The deconstruction and reconstruction of the material is formal and geometric to resemble how man manipulates nature and tries to contain it. Over time interventions change the material and a natural sculpture is created. My input is the next step in this sculptural process.
