Burnt pine hanging.

Here is a piece I have been working on that looks at using milled wood to create a flowing form. It may not be found wood but it shares qualities with my other pieces.
I am applying a natural shape and a random, flowing pattern to something angular and manufactured.

I shaped the piece with a draw knife, its just as quick as power sanding and leaves a lot less mess. The small scale version of this made loads of dust, so one five times the size would take ages to clean up!

Here i am burning one side of the piece. I'm only burning one side so that once it is hung and stepped round there is a big contrast between the dark black and natural color.

This is what the surface looks like after burning, rubbing back and then burning again. The detail is amazing but there is no way of fixing this to the surface.

Here you can start to see the piece taking shape. I got about half way through today and should finish tomorrow. There will be a gradual twist throughout the piece so the contrast in colors can be seen from all sides.
